1 Ms. Middleton 2008-2009

2 What is this class about?  The mission of this class is to learn about Entrepreneurship in a fun and interesting way.  You will receive many “perks” from this class including field trips, a backpack, supplies, shirts, gift certificates and MONEY.  You will also be eligible for scholarships all the way through college for being a graduate of YEK.

3 Classroom Rules  Choose Your Attitude The attitude you choose will determine how your day and everyone else’s goes.  Be Respectful If you respect me and others, you will be respected in return.  Be Honest and Trustworthy I do not tolerate dishonesty or cheating. DON’T DO IT!

4 Classroom Expectations  When you come into the room: Pick up your “bank” and take it to your assigned seat. Complete any “bellwork” that is listed on the whiteboard and/or screen.  Tardy Policy: If both feet are not on the carpet when the bell rings you are tardy.  What to do if you are tardy: Please sign the tardy sign-in sheet. After you receive three tardies, you will receive a tardy referral sheet for a detention. YOU WILL NOT GET “PAID”.

5 Classroom Expectations  Dress Code: This is a business class, therefore you will need to look decent when you are in this class.  Conduct: You will conduct yourselves as mature individuals at all times. When speakers are present you are to be on your best behavior.

6 Classroom Expectations  MP3/CD Players: Allowed during Individual Work Time as long as one ear is left open so you can hear me. Not Allowed during Whole Class Instruction Time. Headphones are available for check-out with collateral (a shoe, your badge, etc).  Food: Allowed during IWT as long as you clean up your trash and don’t mess up the keyboards and/or tables. Not Allowed during WCIT.  Drinks: Computers on sides of room: Must be on the floor. Computers on end of room: Must be on the desk. Tables: OK but don’t spill and don’t disrupt anyone else’s space.

7 Classroom Expectations  Bathroom/Hall Pass: NO BADGE=NO PASS ○ Do not come up to me putting on your badge, if you don’t have it on when you walk in the room, don’t bother!!! You will not go anywhere during WCIT unless you are called out by the office. Don’t bother asking. (Obvious Emergencies may be excluded).

8 Classroom Expectations  Internet Usage: Homework= yes MP3 music =yes w/o abuse Just because = not unless I give you permission  Email: NO- unless you are emailing an assignment to me. Consequence: automatic 30 minute detention with me after school.

9 Classroom Expectations  At the end of class: Log-off. Shutdown and Power Off. Put things back the way you found them. Have a seat until the bell rings. When you leave, push your chair in.

10 Assignments  You will have some vocabulary assignments.  Most work will be done in class, with a few exceptions.  The primary assignment will be an in-depth business plan on a business of your choice. This assignment will be started during first semester and completed in second semester.  You will make presentations in this class from time to time.  You will compete in a business plan competition for scholarships.

11 Grades  Grades will be determined through a percentage of a total point value.  Participation is a HUGE part of your grade. The other part that is important is the parts of the business plan.  Total point value is undetermined.  The grading scale is as follows: A=100-90% B=89-80% C=79-70% D=69-60% F=59% and below

12 Contract  You will be signing a contract stating that you understand that in order to be a member of the YEK class that you agree to be here ALL YEAR. YEK is not a semester class.  If you fail to enroll in second semester, you will be required to pay $100 for the costs of materials used in this class.  If you fail this class first semester you will be dismissed from the program and also required to pay the $100 fee.  I will be sending home a notice to your parents that they will need to sign and send back to me informing them of this policy as well.
