Question 1

FOR QUESTION 2  Forms and conventions  The male gaze theory…doesn’t really apply to my music video however a female is the main character…nothing provocative- costume, dance or setting…serious plotline…could be seen as my products usp.  Only male gaze aspect is at the end when only the singers lips are on show…however I did this to emphasise the words “who do you think you are” as that is the message of the lyrics. I did not do this to seem sexual or endearing.  There is a lot of violent scenes shown throughout which is not a typical form or convention for a music video. I did this to emphasise the horror elements of the storyline and to also make the song stand out and be unique due to the originality of my product.

Question 1  How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillary texts?

Continuity between the two is exactly the same...same footage/ screen grabs. Same costumes and dark theme. Same setting for both...promotes the single to a greater level due to familiarity between all of the texts...easy for consumers to find the album online or in a store due to the forest background and artists face from the Jar of Hearts music video.

Plot line is to showcase the seriousness of domestic abuse and how is increasingly common, especially towards women. I chose to keep the scenes simple in the fact that there isn’t lot going on. The music video focuses on the lyrics and story rather then dancing as in the original text by Christina Perri.

Contrast between pictures...innocent looking girl that is hurt...knife covered in blood...heaven vs. hell...religious imagery...she walks towards the light. Keeping the digi pack and magazine advert simple yet effective due to the main image...two screen grabs from the music video footage to promote the singer, her album, and to showcase the type of messages/ plot lines that are shown. Using red writing for the Ancillary tasks connotes with the death and blood drawn from within the music video itself. This creates more impact as it contrasts with the black and white background on both the digi pack and the magazine advert.

 All in all believe that both of my products together create a unique tone which not many artist have explored. This is the horror elements that I have added to my music video and to the Digipak cover. I made the snap shots in black and white as I feel it connotates the serious nature of the products. This is then contrasted by the red writing on the ancillary tasks which represent the blood shed and danger which is what the products are based on.
