7 7 A non-profit service and advocacy organization © 2011 National Council on Aging The LTC Commission Establishment The American Taxpayer Relief Act (the so-called "fiscal- cliff" law) repealed the CLASS Act and established a Long-Term Care Commission to advise Congress on how long-term care can be better provided and financed for the nation's older adults and people with disabilities, now and in the future. The bi-partisan commission consists of 15 appointees appointed by Democratic and Republican Congressional leadership and the White House.

9 9 A non-profit service and advocacy organization © 2011 National Council on Aging Charged by statute to report with a "plan for the establishment, implementation, and financing of a comprehensive, coordinated, and high-quality system that ensures the availability of long-term services and supports for individuals in need." Within 6 months of the appointment of Commissioners (by September 12, 2013) they must vote on a comprehensive and detailed report based on the long-term care plan that contains any recommendations or proposals for legislative or administrative action as the Commission deems appropriate.
