The OAQ develops guidelines and quality standards, conducts accreditation and evaluation procedures and has an international commitment. It acknowledges the autonomy of the universities, perceives its role as an external partner for quality assurance and development and provides a range of supporting services.

4 4 Institut für Sportwissenschaft Prof. Dr. Udo Hanke The evaluation of continuing education programs in Switzerland is a voluntary process, the primary purpose being to reflect on the function of processes and outcomes (internal self-evaluation) and to benefit from a constructive peer review (external evaluation). The procedure contributes to an improvement in the quality of the program and to the development of an institutional culture of quality, and results in the delivery of the OAQ quality label. In the absence of specific federal legislation, OAQ has developed a set of quality standards for the evaluation of continuing education programs at public and private universities of applied sciences (UAS), leading to qualifications such as Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) and Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA).
