Birth Score WV State Code Article 22B. 16-22-B – 1-4 The purpose is to reduce the incidence of postneonatal mortality and disease by: Identifying newborns at greatest risk for death or developmental delay between one month and one year of age Linking these infants with physicians for close follow-up during the first year of life. Authorizes the division of health to establish and implement the Birth Score Program and requires hospitals, birthing facilities, attending physicians, and other persons attending a birth, to ensure a birth score is determined.
