Describe what he does and what affect this may have on the animals. 2.In Chapter 7, Napoleon abolishes the theme song Beasts of England. What is the real reason (not what Squealer says)? What threat does the old song pose to Napoleon?

4 ALLEGORY: THE GREAT PURGE The Great Purge = The Great Purge A political term referring to a state or party trying to rid itself of disloyal elements, by killing or jailing the non-faithful. Stalin’s purge of the 1930s went beyond any purges ever seen. When his terror tactics were over, Russia was a terrified country and Stalin was its unchallengeable master. In Animal Farm, animals are seized without warning, for no apparent cause and forced to confess, implicating others.

6 REVISIONIST HISTORY What does “revisionist” mean? Compare Squealer’s description of the Battle of the Cowshed to the actual battle in Chapter 4. Match the actual incidences with the occurrences from Squealer’s fictional account. After you complete the REVISIONIST HISTORY CHART (  ), explain why the animals accept the revised history.
