Adjectives and Adverbs By: Kayla Griffin

Adjectives Adjectives are words that describe, people, places, and things. Adjectives describe nouns. Adjectives add interesting details to your descriptions. Adjectives modify the noun. Adjectives can come right before a noun or right after a verb.

Adjectives When adjectives come after a verb, they tend to be separated by a conjunction. When you have two adjectives come before a noun, you usually just put a comma between them. Adjectives answer questions, like : What kind?, Which one?, How many ?, and How much?.

Adjective Examples 1.They lived in a beautiful house. 2.Ben is an adorable baby. 3.This glass is breakable. 4.Linda’s hair is gorgeous. 5.Lisa is wearing a sleeveless shirt today.

Adverbs Adverbs usually describe or modify adjectives, verbs, clauses, and other adverbs. A better way to define adverbs is by what they do in a sentence. Lots of adverbs end in “ly”. Not every word that ends in “ly” is an adverb. Adverbs make writing and speaking more interesting and precise.

Adverbs In many cases, all you have to do is add “ly” to an adjective to turn it into an adverb. Adverbs answer questions like: “how?”, “when?”, “where ?”, and “to what degree?”.

Adverb Examples 1.I will surely remember to take out the garbage. 2.I will probably never forget you. 3.The children awoke unusually early. 4.The actor bowed gracefully low. 5.She sang more beautifully tonight than last night.
