4 Before - Materials Poll –A. I have one book to read. –B. I only had an article to read. –C. I had both books to choose from to read. Those of you who answered A or B please e- mail for a status update from the appropriate person with respect to your books.

5 Before - Intended Learning Outcomes Use the Blackboard Collaborate online meeting room with increasing ease –Run a successful audio setup –Receive and save a file (and figure out where you put it) –Communicate in the main room and breakout rooms by: Using the whiteboard tools Using the chat window Turning on and off the “stepped away from the session” indicator Use emoticons Put your hand up and down Participate in a poll –Save the whiteboard slides or chat window –Participate in a web tour

6 Before - Intended Learning Outcomes (continued) Experience a literature circle in action –Participate in an adaptation of the “Say Something” strategy (participate in a literature circle discussion group.) Know how to access all of the meeting dates at any time Begin to develop a “product” for our final sharing session (The ownership piece of assessment for learning.) Know what to do to request (additional) reading materials

7 Before - Group Norms Technicial Norms –Run the audio setup wizard prior to each session –Turn off your mic on and off –Once a timer has expired, wrap up your conversations and turn off your microphone –Use the step away button, emoticons, hand up/down buttons when appropriate –Alert me to questions or comments that go unanswered in the chat box. Discussion Group Norms –Share book title, page, etc. –All voices must be included and participants must feel included Let people pass Take turns Interrupt politely Continue on the ideas of others Provide input and ask follow-up questions Show enthusiasm –Everyone must have their ideas respected –The discussion should move us to new understandings
