4 Expectations You have a huge share of the responsibility in the clinical process. Submitting paperwork scheduling your clinical hours, etc. are not things that KU staff can do for you. You will need to make sure that you have a full understanding of expectations and comply with them if you want a successful experience.

5 Externship Challenges Plan carefully-think about your schedule and what you will need to “juggle” during that time. ◦ Time off from work? ◦ Childcare? ◦ Car for travel? Communicate with me! You need to contact me with any questions, issues, changes, etc. If you see an E-mail from me, please respond ASAP.

10 Immunization Tracker Same website as background check, but you MUST create a SEPARATE ACCOUNT www.certifiedbackground.com

31 Submitting this document Follow the same process you did for the Healthcare Verification Form If you have any lab reports or documents from your doctor you also need to submit those

32 Key things to remember: If you are uploading the documents: ◦ Hepatitis B – you must submit the document for each of the sections  If you are waiving the vaccine, you must submit it 4 times ◦ Chest X-ray  If your TB Skin test is negative you must mark the record N/A and attach the TB Skin test to this area as well ◦ NOTE: If you are faxing you will only need to submit it once!

33 CPR Certification Can not be an online course Must be through the: ◦ American Heart Association ◦ American Red Cross You MUST sign the back of your CPR card!

34 Submitting this document Follow the same process you did for the other forms You must submit the front and back of your card (if it has inside information, please submit that as well) Please remember – SIGN the back of the card!

35 How do I know if I completed everything on Immunization Tracker I am NOT able to tell you via e-mail if you have met the requirements, you must log into your Immunization Tracker account to check! Once you have met the 12 out of 12 requirements I receive notification

39 Paperwork Deadline When is it? ◦ Always posted in the course and on reminder emails! Are there exceptions? ◦ NO – it must be submitted and APPROVED by 5pm on the deadline date! ◦ If you submit something and it is missing information it is not considered approved and will not be accepted!

40 Be Proactive Be Proactive Get all of your requirements completed BEFORE the deadline! Complete all of the components you are responsible for. If you have any questions, on what needs to be completed consult the Clinical Student Handbook or ask me. Start Early

41 Student Responsibilities It is your responsibility to submit all paperwork, schedule hours, and contact me when questions/issues arise, etc.

42 Site Assignments The Clinical Placement team has begun contacting sites that you submitted on your application. Please keep in mind that placement at your requested sites is not guaranteed. The Placement Team makes an average of 60-70 phone call per student. Once the team has received all of the necessary documents from the site for your placement, you will receive your site assignment during Week 5 of your first clinical course.

43 Next Step-Site Assignments Receive externship site from me two weeks prior to the scheduled start date. Set up your interview at clinical site. This is your responsibility. ◦ Be professional in the interview ◦ Business casual attire – no jeans, sneakers, halter tops, etc

44 Resume If you need help udpating your resume, please visit the Career Resource Center on your KUCampus page

45 Forms It is your responsibility to provide your externship site with the required forms! All forms are in your Clinical Student Handbook (in DocSharing of the course) Do not assume your site has the current forms. They do not! You need to provide the forms and ensure they are completed and faxed to the Placement Team. Fax numbers are listed at the top of each form. Keep a copy of all of your forms for YOUR records!

46 What If……. What if issues arise at my site? Communication is key! If you feel that something is not going well, let me know ASAP. I am here to support you through your clinical experience. Do not ever hesitate to contact me.

47 What you need to be successful-personal responsibility! Students who fail externship do so because of lack of responsibility- Arriving Late Leaving Early Being Absent Using a cell phone at a site Participating in office gossip Please remember to contact your site and me if you are to be unexpectedly absent.

48 Question….. Who do you contact if an emergency situation occurs and you cannot make it to your site?

49 Next steps Paperwork turned in by the required deadline You will be registered for your MA260 course after the paperwork deadline. Start your course Receive clinical site assignment (2 weeks prior) Set up interview at clinical site
