3 Support for children All children in Year 1 receive some form of literacy and numeracy support appropriate to their needs at some point in the year. Extra Literacy Support (ELS) – working with ‘Pip’ Talking Partners Comprehension skills 3

5 Parent Partnership We are always happy to discuss your concerns or queries Please speak to us outside of teaching time, either before or after school We are always available after school for a quick chat but often have meetings from 3.30 p.m. Please make an appointment if you feel you need longer. 5

6 Topic Letters Half termly - can also be accessed from the school’s website and blog. Gives details of activities and topics Some suggestions to help you support your child at home Suggestions for additional information or ideas are welcome 6

8 Reading School reading schemes – All Aboard - Oxford Tree -Storyworlds -Phonics Bug -Library choosing books 8

9 Homework Weekly - sent out on a Friday, due back on a Wednesday. 3 books - Home Reader book, phonic book (to read to an adult) and library book (to be read with an adult) Book review – 1 per week Spelling ladders – New Curriculum Spelling to be tested on Wednesdays Learning Logs to be sent home as necessary –first one due at October half term with an accompanying letter Talk homework 9

10 Home reading If the homework is not right for your child, please come and talk to us Home reader books should be read independently and with ease As much as possible, your child needs to complete the book review Separate reading scheme to that read in school during Guided Reading sessions 10

11 Educational Visits At least once a term Provide opportunities to extend and explore topics Always welcome suggestions for places to visit If any parents/guardians are available to come on a trip please let us know 11

12 Snack A piece of fruit provided daily Please inform us of any allergies Children welcome to take a healthy snack to school e.g. cereal bar, dried fruit etc. Milk provided daily to those who have requested it Kindly label water bottles and snacks Children encouraged to take water bottle to school 12

13 First Aid Note sent home if an injury is deemed serious enough to record in the school accident book Cuts are washed with water – no antiseptic used Inhalers – please provide for school All medications are kept in school office Letter needed requesting medication is administered in school with dose and time Must be clearly labeled with child’s name 13
