1 AN INTRODUCTION TO Y3 AND KS2

3  Class 7 and 8  Entrance through the playground doors  Cloakrooms & toilets are just outside the classroom. YEAR 3 CLASSROOMS

4  Children will be responsible for their money. All money should be brought in purses, which should be clearly named.  Morning playtime – juice (35p), milkshake (50p) biscuits (20p), children can bring in their own fruit from home.  Hot dinners – children bring dinner money and pay on the day. They can also buy juice/milk at the till (£2.25)  At the start of lunchtime, all of the children go out into the playground & wait to be called in for lunch. PLAYTIMES/LUNCHTIMES

5  Longer than in KS1, finishing at 3.15pm.  No afternoon playtime, although this will remain at the start of Y3 and be gradually withdrawn. AFTERNOONS

6  Basic structure of the day is the same, i.e. Literacy/Numeracy and guided reading in the morning and Topic in the afternoons.  At the start of the day the children will begin with a ‘Morning Challenge’. DAILY ROUTINES

7  Mainly held in the Upper School Hall.  Special Mention still on Friday- return following Thursday ASSEMBLIES

8  Children will bring their book bags home every day.  Reading - children are asked to read at least three times a week. We ask parents to hear their child read and check their understanding of what they have read. This information should be recorded in the child’s reading diary.  Children may change their home readers as soon as they have finished them. We will encourage children to write a short review of the book they have just read.  They will be reading their Guided books at a more challenging level in school with the class teacher so the home readers are there for them to practise and enjoy.  Extra support or extension work will be given to children within school, as appropriate to their current learning needs. READING

9  All children are encouraged to spend time learning their multiplication tables. Parents are asked to recap tables focus learnt in school noted on the class letter.  Homework will be sent out home once every half term. It will either be Topic, Literacy or Maths based.  The children are encouraged to use ICT resources and the use of information books either at home or in the library. HOMEWORK

11  Start of day – please allow your child to be independent when coming into the classroom and organising their things.  Ensure all items are named (purses, clothing, shoes)  Please continue to encourage your child to complete reading and homework tasks and ask for help if you need it. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
