8 8 VISA Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs - apply for a resident visa by a visitor visa Foreign Affairs Division of the Kaohsiung Police Headquarters- 1. apply for an Alien Residence Certificate (ARC) 2. extend your visa

9 9 Alien Resident Certificate International students staying in Taiwan for more than six months will have to apply for an Alien Resident Certificate. A. Student with a visitor visa will first need to apply for a resident visa from the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kaohsiung Office. The visa will be issued within 15 days. B. Student with a resident visa will need to apply for the Alien Resident Certificate in the Foreign Affairs Division of the Kaohsiung Police Headquarters within 15 days. (You can always pick up the application form at OIA)

10 10 Extend your visa International Exchange Students staying here for only one semester have no need to apply for an Alien Resident Certificate. With a visitor visa, you may stay here for sixty days and you can apply at Foreign Affairs Division of Kaohsiung Police Headquarters for a maximum of two extensions, each for sixty days. The applicants are required to apply for extension within ten days prior to the expiration of a visitor visa.

12 12 Reminders for extending your visa Students holding multiple entry visa may re- enter Taiwan within the valid period stated on the visa. Students holding single entry visa and if he or she leaves Taiwan, he or she will need to apply for visa from overseas in order to re-enter Taiwan again. If your visa expires, you will be deported and have to apply for visa from overseas in order to re-enter Taiwan again.

13 13 Reminders regarding Entry for Aliens (foreign nationals) in Taiwan Foreign nationals are required to apply for Resident Certificate within fifteen days after they are issued a Resident Visa. They will be fined if they violate the regulation set by the Immigration Department in Taiwan. If foreign nationals stay in Taiwan after Visitor Visa or Resident Certificate expires, they will be fined according to the regulation set by Immigration Department in Taiwan.

15 15 General Codes of Conduct for Students of NSYSU Students who violate regulations will be issued a written warning. Students ID in NSYSU will be cancelled and a letter of notification will be sent to the home institution of students who seriously and repeatedly violate NSYSU regulations.

16 16 Important General Codes Students are not allowed entry into the dormitories of the opposite gender, nor have overnight guests. If found, you will be deported from dormitories. Students are not allowed to swim where prohibited and also where no lifeguards are on duty. Students should not undertake actions off- campus which will in turn bring dishonor to NSYSU.

17 17 Registration Procedures 註冊程序 1. Your Registration Form is inside your package. 2. Pick up the dormitory and insurance payment notice, and submit the medical insurance certificate at the Office of International Affairs. 3. Present your payment notice and pay fees to cashier of Bank of Taiwan (open hours: 9:30am to 11:30am) Please make sure to keep your receipt after paying the fee. 4. Return the Registration Form to Registrar Division and pick up your Student ID Card.

18 18 Fees International exchange students from sister universities have their tuition waivered. Fees that exchange students need to pay include: Student Union Group Insurance Fee: NT$ 291 Computer facilities usage: NT$300 Health Insurance Fee: If you stay in Taiwan for more than 4 months.

19 19 National Health Insurance All foreigners residing in Taiwan for more than four months, and holding an Alien Resident Certificate, are required to join the National Health Insurance Program. Premium is to be paid monthly (NT$749 per month). Students who are eligible to join the NHI have to pay the premium in full upon registration.

24 24 Leaving Procedures 離校手續 1. Obtain the Procedure Sheet for Leaving NSYSU at the college office before your leaving time. 2. Return room key to the Residence Advisor and get your deposit back. 3. Return borrowed books and pay back the overdue fines (if any) at the Library. 4. Pay off the fines of violating the rules (if any) at the Vehicle Regulation Office. 5. Fill out the questionnaire at the Office of International Affairs. 6. Fill out the address of your home and Institute on Leaving Procedure Sheet, and return this sheet to Registrar Division.

25 25 Attendance 出席 If the student’s total absent days exceeds that of one-third the total number of days the class is in session, then the college will notify the student’s home institution by document. Absence without proper documentation is considered the same as truancy. One truant hour is the equivalent of two hours of missed classes.

26 26 Chinese Class If you already have some basic knowledge towards Chinese, please go to Room 312, 3rd Floor, Liberal Arts Building at 9:30 on 21st of Feb. for your placement test. You will start your Chinese course on 6th of March at 12:10. 如果你已經學過中文了, 請記得在 2 月 21 日早上 9:30 在文學院 3 樓的 312 教室參加中文考試。所有的學生 將於 3 月 6 日中午 12 點 10 分開始上課。

27 27 Chinese Class Don’t forget to fill out the registration form if you want to take Chinese class and please hand in the form first time you go to your Chinese class. If you want to withdrawal from your Chinese class, you also need to go to Chinese Language Center to fill out the withdrawal form. Please be advised that the deadline is 9th of March for registration and also the same day (3/9) for withdrawal form.

28 28 Important Dates Please be well aware that it is your responsibility to memorize all the important dates regarding your course selection and confirmation. If you’re not clear with the course selection procedures, don’t forget that your buddy is a very good helper to assist you.

31 31 Accommodation 住宿 Hot Water Supply The hot water used in the dormitories’ shower facilities is provided by boilers and is readily available everyday between 5 p.m. to midnight. For the students’ convenience, it is recommended to use the shower facilities during these hours.

32 32 Accommodation Visitors of Opposite Gender If a student, for some reason such as repairing a computer or carrying heavy objects, has a visitor of opposite gender, the visitor accompanied by the student needs to inform the residence manager or advisor and get an ID in exchange for a yellow vest to wear for identification. Visiting time is 10:00am to 8:00pm. The duration of stay may not last more than two hours. Overnight visitors are prohibited. If found, students will be deported from dormitories.

33 33 Accommodation Electricity Wu-ling Villa I, II and Tsui-heng Villa E will have the main lights shut down starting 12:00am. You are only allowed to keep your personal lights and outlets on.

35 35 Application for Parking Permit Students may obtain a scooter’s parking permit for parking space on campus. The cost of the permit is NT$200. An applicant needs to fill out an application form (at OIA) and attach a copy of scooter registration, driver’s license. student I.D and an emission test sheet of your scooter. Also the automobile liability insurance of your scooter needs to be prepared as the beneficial document for your permit.

36 36 Traffic Regulations Students have to wear safety helmets while riding a scooter and should not ride a scooter after drinking alcohol. When parking your scooters around the dormitory buildings or teaching area, please make sure you park WITHIN the white parking spaces or your scooters might be towed away by the Motor Vehicle Regulations Office.

41 41 Pre-paid Cell Phone Card You need: - a GSM 2 or 3-band phone, which you can bring from your own country or buy locally. - 2 kinds of Identification Certificates. It can be your passport, ARC card and Student ID. The card can be purchased at any Telecom outlet or service center, Taiwan-wide President Convenience Stores ( 7-11), or Hi-Life Convenience Stores.

42 42 Open a Bank Account You need: - ID no. in Taiwan (Foreign Affairs Division of the Kaohsiung Police Headquarters ) - 2 kinds of Identification Certificates. It can be your passport, ARC card and Student ID.

44 44 Reminder Tunnel and Rear Gate will be closed at night. 隧道口關閉 (From 00:00~5:00am) Please be very careful about any body contacts while getting along with other students. We strongly suggest students to know more about local cultures before coming to Taiwan.
