THE A MANDA YOUNG FOUNDATION PROMOTING AND MARKETING OUR CHARITY OUR CHARITY

I NTRODUCTION Amanda Young was young, smart and just about to start her life. Until she contracted meningococcal disease and within 24 hours, she was dead. Reminder of our vision: We are a responsible service, offering excellent services to help people in need. We hold high values, integrity, honesty and equality in all our work and aim to delight our customers and share their vision with a wide range of business services. Our vision is to create a business that involves non-profit organisations and helps them promote their values and ideas to the community.

Meningococcal Disease Can you really inform someone about something you know nothing about? The answer is no. Yet that seems to be what we have been doing for the last few weeks. Meningococcal is a bacteria transmitted through saliva. There are many types but the two most common in Australia are types B and C. Can be contracted by coughing, sneezing, kissing intimately or sharing drinks.

Who’s at risk? - Babies and children up the age of 5 years old - Teenagers and young adults around the ages of 15-25 - Smokers and passive smoking - Winter and early spring (So, right now!) - Why is this? - Babies and children have low immune systems and they are not immunised against many things until they are roughly around age 4 or 5. - Teenagers are going through puberty where their bodies change and they have a low immune system. They also the most common age group found in nightclubs and parties where close contact such as kissing and sharing drinks is common

 Severe headache  Fever  Sore throat  Lack of energy  Aching joints  Pains in the stomach and/or chest  Stiff neck  Sensitivity to light  Nausea/vomiting  Dizziness  Confusion  Irritability  Tiredness or Drowsiness  Both strains –Meningitis and Septicaemia develop rashes in late stages but - DO NOT WAIT FOR THE RASH TO APPEAR!
