1 Teachers with guns

2 Some teachers and staff(who have been trained) in the Harrold, Texas, school district carry concealed guns in the school as the last line of defense in the event of a shooting on campus. The town is 30 miles from the nearest law enforcement agency. David Thweatt, superintendent of the school district, sees his job not only as an educator, but also a protector of the 120 or so kindergarten through 12th grade students in his care. In the wake of several major school shootings around the country, his school district passed the first-of-its- kind concealed handgun policy in 2007, aiming to provide protection for students in case of an active shooter. They called it the Guardian Plan.

3 In Other News The latest Ferguson confrontation isn't taking place on the streets of the Missouri city, but between St. Louis County police and the St. Louis Rams. It started when five Rams players took to the field Sunday with their palms in the air -- showing the "hands up, don't shoot" gesture used by protesters decrying the police shooting death of unarmed black teen Michael Brown. The St. Louis Police Officers Association was furious, saying the players "chose to ignore the mountains of evidence released from the St. Louis County Grand Jury" in the grand jury's decision not to indict former Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson. St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar sent an e- mail to his staff saying the Rams' chief operating officer called Monday to apologize. "I received a very nice call this morning from Mr. Kevin Demoff of the St. Louis Rams who wanted to take the opportunity to apologize to our department on behalf of the Rams for the "Hands Up" gesture that some players took the field with yesterday," Belmar wrote in the e-mail, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. But the Rams said the apology is not true. This has sparked a controversy in St. Louis. The Lebanese military has detained a wife of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The detentions took place near Lebanon's border with Syria when they tried to enter the country. No details were available on the names or nationalities of the woman or the son. Bill Cosby's long relationship with Temple University has come to an end, another effect of the scandal engulfing the once adored television star and comedian. Cosby resigned from Temple's board of trustees on Monday, a position he held for 32 years. Cosby also attended Temple. At least 17 women have spoken publicly accusing the comedian of sexual misconduct, and many of the women say he drugged them before he raped them. Some of the alleged attacks took place decades ago. Soccer legend Pele remained in an intensive care unit Monday, a week after he was hospitalized with a urinary tract infection. The 74-year-old has no fever and is receiving antibiotics. Pele is one of the best known names in all of sports.
