Philosophy Statement: Shoreline special educators work with families, staff, and community members to maximize each student’s abilities to reach outcomes that match his or her unique strengths and interests. We teach: Skills necessary to be productive, responsible and integrated members of the community Safe independence Life skills to support and foster community inclusion

Designed to meet specific IEP goals Evaluated regularly for effectiveness Decisions are driven by data that is collected for each student Students are assessed regularly Instruction and goals aligned with District’s scope and sequence

5 Community Outings Thursdays

6 Why do we go on community outings?
To practice social skills in a variety of situations and settings with people in the community To learn community access skills and what our community has to offer for our students To practice skills in price comparison, locating items, reading a recipe for ingredients, creating a grocery list, budgeting, and purchasing items from a cashier

7 The Shoreline Training and Production Center 3rd Trimester for 8th graders
Why do we go to the production center? To introduce job skills To practice independent work skills To learn appropriate workplace behavior and communication To practice social skills with peers and community members
