An unclean work area can be very dangerous. Good housekeeping involves: ●working tidily ●keeping entrances, exits and walkways clear ●disposing of food waste ●cleaning up at the end of each day.

Would you work on a site like this? What are some other major hazards in the workplace?

What are the main requirements for storing highly flammable liquids?

5 Unit 1001 Safe working practices in construction © Pearson Education 2010 Printing and photocopying permitted Hazards on construction sites ●Working at height – the main risk is falling from height ●Tripping – poor housekeeping is the main cause of tripping ●Chemical spills – COSHH or risk assessment should include a plan for dealing with spillages ●Burns – can come from fire and material containing chemicals like cement and solvents ●Electricity – working too close to electric cables could lead to electric shock ●Fires – the main risk from fires is smoke inhalation
