1 DO NOW: HAND HOMEWORK INTO BASKET, TAKE A NUMBER FROM THE BOX, GET A TEXTBOOK, AND WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.

2 Individually, read the short story that matches with the number you pulled 1. “Coyote Steals the Sun and Moon” (page 776) 2. “Chicoria” (page 784) 3. “The Ninny” (page 654) 4. “Gentleman of Rio en Medio” (page 300)

3 While reading, fill in the following information:  What makes up the exposition (of this specific story)?  Rising action?  What is the main conflict and what kind of conflict is it?  Climax?  Falling action?  Resolution?  What is the theme of this story?

4 Then, get into a group with the others who read the same story  As a group, collaborate and discuss your answers to create a poster about your story  Your poster should include:  The title and author of your story, bold and easy to see  The “plot diagram” with the each section of the story labeled and explained  (On the back) What the main conflict is and what kind of conflict it is  (On the back) The theme of the story  (On the back) All group members’ names

5 As a group, you will “teach” your story to the class. Then, I will collect…  The group poster  Original notes/answers from each individual group member

6 What you will be graded on  How thorough and accurate are your individual answers?  How thorough and accurate is the information on the group poster?  How neat and visually-pleasing is your poster? (Have fun with it!)  How was your oral presentation to the class? (Volume? Eye contact? Enthusiasm?)  *All group members should speak at least once during the presentation  How well did you work as a group? Did you use class time effectively?
