3 Review the definitions of plot, exposition, rising action, and climax with your reading partner.

4 Plot (definition) Plot is the sequence of related events that make up a story.

5 1. Exposition Usually occurs at the beginning of a short story. –Characters, setting, and conflict(s) are introduced.

6 2. Rising Action Conflict develops. Suspense and interest builds.

7 3. Climax Turning point of the story. Main character comes face-to-face with the conflict. Main character will have to make a decision and/or change in some way.

8 4. Falling Action Loose ends of the plot are tied up. The conflict(s) may be settled. Consequences of decision made in climax.

9 5. Resolution The story comes to a reasonable ending.

11 Rising Action Exposition Climax Falling Action Resolution After your Elements of Plot notes, make a new plot diagram for “Thank You M’am”. Add each part of the story to your plot diagram. You may work with your table partner.
