6 SHAC History  Established 1972 to “provide formal student participation into administration of UCLA Student Health Services”.  An officially recognized UCLA student committee  Allows for funding from administration

7 SHAC vs. SHAs at UCLA  SHA-Group health educators  Trained through health science course  SHAC-SHS advisory panel  Provides oversight and input into the SHS  Establish formal relationships with campus groups and campus administrators

8 Mission  Support SHS mission of “quality, accessible, evidence- based health care to support the well-being of UCLA students in their pursuit of higher education”.

9 Bylaws  Composition and eligibility  Officers  Meetings and other SHAC Events  Subcommittees  Stipends

10 Compensation and Eligibility  Membership:  4 members appointed by Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC)  4 members appointed by Graduate Students Association (GSA)  Term of Service  One to two years, no more than 2 consecutive terms or 4 years.  SHAC Member Accountability:  >1 unexcused absence per quarter  Academic probation  Disciplinary action by the university  Required electronic presence

11 Officers  Undergraduate and Graduate co-chair.  Elected annually at the first general meeting.

12 Stipends  Determined by student fee advisory committee  $1800 per year  Additional $900 for chair  Forfeit if missing 2 or more unexcused absences.

13 Meetings  General meetings: 4 per quarter  Most of the work is done electronically  Special meetings  Participates in the negotiation and selection of Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) (~10 meetings)
