Don McClain65th St church of Christ / June 17, 2007 28  The Samaritans “believed... were baptized” (Acts 8:5,12,16).  Thus they received the remission of sins and what the Holy Spirit had promised to ALL THOSE WHO CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD, (Acts 2:21)!  But they had no miraculous gifts until the apostles came and laid hands on them (Acts 8:14-18).  Thus, one can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and not receive miraculous spiritual gifts!

Don McClain65th St church of Christ / June 17, 2007 29  Cornelius’ household received the baptism of the Holy Spirit (10:44-45) “the like gift” (11:17) as “at the beginning” (11:15).  But this “like gift” as “at the beginning” is not the same as “the gift of the Holy Spirit” of Acts 2:38.  The baptism of the Holy Spirit came before water baptism and salvation in Acts 10:44-48.  Water baptism came before “the gift of the Holy Spirit” in Acts 2:38.
