Social Security Act -$ for retired workers -$ for unemployed -payroll taxes fund this program today 2. Tennessee Valley Authority (p. 706) – helped poor farmers in NC & TN 3. AAA – paid farmers to cut production

Different people began to lead the government courts ruled that some of his early programs were unconstitutional FDR wanted to add more judges – ones that would agree with his plans: COURT PACKING MANY people disagreed with this plan, hurt his popularity Frances Perkins – 1 st woman to be a Secretary in the Cabinet (Labor) Eleanor Roosevelt – FDR’s wife who became his eyes and ears to problems & supported women’s causes

16 warm up 3/11/15 If the New Deal didn’t fix the Great Depression, then why is it remembered as a significant government program? It gave people hope that the government was trying to help. It provided jobs and welfare for those needing it the most. It did great public work like parks, highways, electricity to rural areas. We still benefit today from some of the projects. We still have Social Security and banking insurance today.
