1 Peer Editing Pass the paper to your left when you are told.

2 Sentence Variety  Highlight any 10 sentences that demonstrate your mastery over sentence variety and punctuation.

3 #1 MLA-Sign your name on the back of the essay.

4 #2 Organization  Thesis: Underline the Thesis. Is it the last sentence in the introduction? It should NOT be the first.  Topic sentences: Underline each topic sentence for each body paragraph. Does each relate to the thesis? Suggestions?  Turn the paper over, write a #2, sign your name, and make a comment.

5 #3 Support  Does each body paragraph have at least two supporting examples? Number each example.  Is there at least one quotation per text?  Does each sentence relate to the topic sentence? If not, put a question mark above the sentence in doubt.  Does the author comment on the examples?  Turn the paper over and sign your name next to #3.

6 #4 Quotations  Does the author introduce each quotation to blend it properly into the essay?  Does the author use internal citations? (White) or (“How to Peer Edit”)  Does the author discuss or comment on the quotation? Where should he/she?  Is there a works cited page?  Flip the paper over and write #4 and sign your name.

7 #5 Voice  What is unique about this essay? Write a comment.  Circle “things,” “you,” “very” and other tired words. Where does the author need better diction?  What grabs your attention with the introduction? Write a comment on the essay.  How does the conclusion leave the reader with a fresh perspective?

8 #6 Grammar/Mechanics  Look at the highlighted sentences. Does the author  Begin with an “-ing” phrase?  Begin with an adverbial conjunction (when, since, during, although, etc.)?  Begin with a long prepositional phrase?  Use an appositive phrase to make sentences concise?  Turn over the essay and sign your name next to #6

9 Pass the essay to the author. Author -Write three ways you will revise your essay. -Please see Mrs. White for help if needed.
