4 General Description of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program Purpose of the Counseling Program is to empower ALL students, regardless of individual differences, to acquire the academic, career, and personal/social foundations necessary to positively contribute to a changing society.

9 REGISTRATION PROCEDURE (cont.) Paper registration forms will be collected by English teachers on Wednesday, February 10th, signed by parents and the appropriate teachers. After That date, the ability to modify course requests through “Family Access” will no longer be available. All changes at that point will need to be made in the counseling office. Please be aware that the student login/password must be used in the registration process, not the parent’s. **Make sure that your son/daughter pursues “the most rigorous curriculum with which they are comfortable, keeping in mind their future post-secondary goals.”

13 Repeating a class due to a failing grade… Required classes such as Lit & Comp 9, Amer Govt, Math, P.E. 9 and Health need to be repeated… Earth Science… options as related to future plans? GHS Summer School offers English, Math(?) & Social Studies

15 What 4 year colleges look for… CLASS RANK CORE CREDITS ACT/SAT SCORE  In the UW System, A “Wholistic” admission process is utilized…  What does this mean for your son/daughter?

20 Marquette Minimums… English – 4 years Social Studies – 2-3 years Foreign Language – minimum 2 years Math – 3-4 years Science – 1-2 years Additional – 2-5 years of core Avg. ACT 24-28 Mean Class Rank is top 20%

22 Post high school plans as related to class selection… Sophomore year and beyond… Information re: class selection to again be given during scheduling for Junior and Senior year… Differences between students who plan on attending technical college vs. students who plan on attending two or four year colleges… Students going straight into the world of work…

23 Class selection… what to consider?? Two year/Four year college… recommended… “Students are encouraged to select college prep courses beyond the minimum. Rigorous courses including senior year course work, are strongly recommended!” Technical College… If planning to attend for pre-college work, keep that in mind when selecting H.S. courses… If thinking about pursuing specialty programs, also keep that in mind in terms of what courses offer the best preparation for a program.
