American Society of Mechanical Engineers

President: John Dimalanta Secretary: Juan Rodriguez Treasurer: Damien Vanderpool Student Senior Advisor: Marianne So Faculty Advisor: Professor Tsao ASME/WHO are the Officers for 05-06 ASME? Picture to be posted

ASME/WHAT is ASME? Mission: To promote and enhance the technical competency and professional well-being of our members, and through quality programs and activities in mechanical engineering, better enable its practitioners to contribute to the well-being of humankind. Core Values:  Facilitate the development, dissemination and application of engineering knowledge  Promote the benefits of continuing education and of engineering education  Promote the technical and societal contribution of engineers UCLA’s Official Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers

ASME/WHAT does UCLA ASME do? Serve as a Resource on Campus that Reinforces ASME’s Mission and Core Values: - Sponsored Projects and Competitions - Link to various Industry Resources - Contribute to the UCLA Community - Complement a Student’s Engineering Education - Encourage Student and Faculty Interaction Outside the Classroom

ASME/Recent Events Weekly Club Meetings - Update members on upcoming events and projects - Inform members of latest career related opportunities - “Professor Talks” which allow selected faculty to present latest research and interact with students in a non-academic setting

ASME/Recent Events Student vs Faculty Tug-O-War Round 3 Results -A-ASME, Robotics, AIAA vs Faculty/Staff - Best 2 out of 3 Competition - Round 1: Faculty/Staff Win ound 2: Faculty/Staff Win Overall Record: Students 0 – Faculty/Staff 3 Attendance Statistics Staff: 10 Faculty: 10 Alumni: 8 Students: 15 Total Cost to Hold Event: $120.17

ASME/Recent Events Student vs Faculty Tug-O-War Round 4 -A-ASME, Robotics, AIAA vs Faculty/Staff - Best 2 out of 3 Competition - To be held during E-Week of Spring Quarter - Anticipate similar operating costs

ASME/Recent Events MAE Dept Town Hall Meeting  Coordination with the MAE Dept. on informing undergraduate MAE students on recent B.S. curriculum changes  ASME in charge of logistics and promotion of event llowed students to provide feedback on current requirements and make recommendations Attendance Statistics to Be Posted Once Event Occurs

ASME/Projects BATTLEBOTS TEAM -C-Competition Held at SF State June 16-18 Bot Updates - Finished R&D and Assignment stage - Former bot chassis being implemented - Already obtained receiver and remote - Offensive mechanism: High Speed Front Rotating Drum

ASME/Updated Events BATTLEBOTS TEAM -C-Current Budget - $2000 total budget for parts and fabrication costs - Saving a good portion of money using older parts from “Son of Boelter” Chassis - Current Funding Received: +$579 from MAE Dept +$60 from ASME Membership (30 registered) +$1200 from Engineering Alumni Association

ASME/Updated Events BATTLEBOTS TEAM ASME Bot Goals For Winter Quarter - Finish ordering critical parts + Batteries + Speed Controllers + External Chassis + High speed motor for Front Drum - Finish altering existing chassis + Expanding chassis to accommodate larger motor and batteries - Finish Design for Front rotating drum and design way to construct drum in machine shop - Estimate total travel costs for team

ASME/Updated Events BATTLEBOTS TEAM Bot Goals For Spring Quarter - Arrange travel plans for team members - Finish construction of Bot by Week 5 (April 2006) - Conduct field test and make proper adjustments - ………… and Win!

ASME/Upcoming Events ASME UCLA Alumni Industry Speaker Night - ASME presenting various Alumni Guest Speakers currently working in the industry + Featuring alumni reps. from Boeing, Raytheon, and other companies - Talk about current industry experience and how their UCLA education is being applied - Give tips to members about how to get ready for an Engineering Job Where: Engineering IV 38-138 When: Week 8 Time: TBD
