3 William Shakespeare’s Biography Born on April 23 or April 24, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England Born into a middle-class family Attended a local grammar school, studying Latin and reading works by ancient Roman writers

4 Biography continued… Married Anne Hathaway at age eighteen Had a daughter named Susanna Had twins named Hamnet and Judith

5 Shakespeare’s Career One of the most successful playwrights in London Wrote a total of 37 plays and over 100 sonnets37 plays Famous for tragedies, comedies, and histories

6 Career continued… Good businessman, as well as a master dramatist Part owner of an acting group called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, which later became the King’s Men Owned shares in the Globe Theatre, where most of his plays were performed

7 Saying Farewell to the Bard While there are no records of William Shakespeare’s death, the monument that marks his grave at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon suggests that he died on April 23, 1616. His works will live on forever!
