Winters are relatively mild (the average January temperature is -2 °C, 28,4 °F) and summers are not too hot (the average July temperature is 20 °C, 68 °F) Springs and autumn are wett seasons. The Central European Time (CET = GMT + 1) is valid in the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic uses summer and winter time, and the time of day is told using the 24-hour system.

5 The Czech republic is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. The country borders Poland to the northeast, Germany to the west, Austria to the south and Slovakia to the east. The Czech Republic has been a member of NATO since 1999, of the European Union since 2004 and a member of the Schengen Agreement since 2007. Thanks to its location at the crossroads of various cultures and thanks to its rich history the Czech Republic has countless cultural and historical points of interest. The country returned in year 1989 to the economic and political freedom of a democratic system. Besides regular music festivals a large number of other music, theatre and artistic performances are carried out in the incomparable atmosphere of Prague music halls and other cultural venues. 10 The Czech currency is called the Czech Crown (CZK). Exchange offices are located all around the city centre (exchange offices, banks, post offices). 12 Prague is located in the very centre of Europe, with easy access by all means of public transport. At present there are over 100 direct flights from 48 countries around the world. Travel time from most of the European cities is around 1.5 hours, the maximum travel time from e.g. Moscow or Lisbon is 2.5 hours. Prague is suitably connected to the national highway system further interconnected with road nets of all neighboring countries. The city forms the hub of the Czech railway system, with services to all parts of the Czech Republic and abroad. There is also a commuter rail system which serves the Prague metropolitan area. 13 International airport Prague-Ruzyně is situated on northwest part of Prague next. The personal transit to the airport is provided by buses of PIT (Prague integrated transport). The airport offers direct connections to 128 destinations in 51 countries. That means almost all the main European cities as well as those overseas. At the current time Prague airport is used as a regular base by 30 airlines and in the summer season its facilities are used by a further 10 to 15 charter companies. Every day around 200 takeoffs and landings take place at the airport. Prague is also easily accessible from all major European cities by car or by train. 18 Prague is situated in the so called heart of Europe and it is the capital of the Czech Republic. The year 870, when Prague castle was established, is regarded as the beginning of the city’s existence. In 1918, at the end of World War I, Prague was declared the capital of a new country – the Czechoslovak Republic. In 1993 it became the capital of an independent Czech Republic. Prague’s historical centre has an area of 866ha (Hradčany and Prague Castle, Malá Strana, the Old Town including Charles Bridge and Josefov, the New Town and Vyšehrad). 25 The Prague metro has been in operation since 1974 and its three lines are still being extended. The metro operates daily from 5 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Trams and buses are usually in operation between 4:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Night buses and night trams operate outside these hours. The tickets for public transportation are very easy to use. One transfer ticket costing CZK 26 will allow you to travel by all means of transport (metro, bus, tram) for 75 to 90 minutes. You can purchase the tickets at vending machines, which are located in metro station foyers, or at newspaper stands. Prague has been claimed to provide 4th best public transportation in Europe (FIA).
