5 How to get by air? The National Airport Minsk is the major international airport in Belarus. There are flights to other airports in other towns, though they are not that large-scale. The Minsk airport is located some 50 km (30 miles) from Minsk. The airport facilities include a bank and exchange office, a post office, a taxi service, a nursery, several restaurants, bars, duty-free shops (for departures only).

6 To get to the city from the airport you basically have three options – to take a bus (~1), take a taxi (~20) or rent a car. Buses depart every hour from 7 am to 10.30 pm. Buses arrive in Minsk to the Central Bus Terminal (which is next to the Central Rail Terminal). Taxis are available at the airport every time there are arrivals. A car rental office is at the arrivals terminal.

7 The Visa The foreigner can enter the Republic of Belarus and leave the Republic of Belarus with the valid passport or other document replacing it, intended for trip abroad and given by the corresponding body of the state of a civil accessory or usual residence of the foreigner or the International organization in case visa of the Republic of Belarus is available.

8 Visas to entrance to the Republic of Belarus are being issued by Diplomatic Representative Offices and Consular Departments of the Republic of Belarus abroad, and also Consular Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in «the National Airport Minsk »

9 The Consular Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs «the National Airport Minsk » works round the clock. Visas in Consular Centre are being drawn up, as a rule, to the foreign citizens arriving from the states where there are no Overseas Departments of the Republic of Belarus. The visas issued by the Consular Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are urgent. Consular fees in double size are being collected for them (contact phone of Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - (00 375 17 2792058

10 For receipt of the visa it is necessary to submit the original invitation from the Belarusian inviting party. The Belarusian organization, the person permanently residing on the territory of the Republic of Belarus (in this case the invitation should be registered in the Department on Citizenship and Migration at the place of residence), and the tourist organization which has the license for carrying out the International tourist activity can act as the inviting party.

11 How much do visas cost? Concerning the foreign citizens who are drawing up the visas in the Consular Centre at the National Airport " Minsk " the following tariffs operate: The countries of the European Community – USD 60 The Great Britain, Hungary, Bulgaria, Israel – USD 60 China – USD 60 The USA – USD 180

12 Money The Belarusian currency is called "rubel" though Russian variant of the name "ruble" can be (and is) used with relation to Belarusian money. Currently there are notes ranging from 1 to 50,000 rubles. No coins are used in Belarus for circulation. Only a small amount of commemorative coins is produced..

13 For the use in metro there are special plastic cards and tokens. Smart cards (plastic cards with microchips) are used for public payphones. There are not many vending machines in Belarus and if there is one – it would accept paper notes (as do coffee machines at many commercial centers) or tokens will be sold somewhere at a nearby newspaper stand or other small retailer.

14 There are numerous currency exchange offices in Belarusian cities to change foreign currency to Belarusian rubles and back. Normally there should be no problems with exchanging US dollars

17 WHEN TO COME? In general, the best time to visit is May September, when the day temperatures are in the 70s-90s F/23-35 C, and nights are in the 50s-70s F/10-23 C. Spring and early fall, however, are unpredictable; snow flurries and temperatures in the mid 20s F/-5 C are possible as late as May or as early as September.
