2 US involvement In the beginning of World War I, the government adopted a policy of neutrality. Many thought of the war as “Europe’s Problem” Even though US was “neutral”, they still continued to send supplies to Britain

4 Moving towards war Sinking of the Lusitania British cruise liner Torpedoed by German U-boat on Friday May 7, 1915. 1,198 dead and 761 survivors. Zimmermann telegram Sent to Mexico from the German Foreign Secretary Zimmerman. Stated that if Mexico joined forces against the US, Germany will help Mexico reclaim the land they lost to the US. Telegram intercepted and decoded by American and British Authorities

5 Russian Revolution War brought out many hardships for the Russians. Russian mobs overthrew the czar creating a revolution, causing Russia to withdraw Wilson felt more at ease joining the Allied Powers with Russia out of the Alliance
