 When a boy reaches a mature age, his body changes and he develops the ability to make and hold millions of sperm cells. These sperm cells are made in the two testes or testicles. Inside the testicles there is a hormone that is made-testosterone. Essentially, the male reproductive system plays a dominant role during the puberty stage of a male’s life. TAKE A STEP INSIDE THE MALE’S REPODUCTIVE SYSTEM

 *The male reproductive system is a series of organs located outside of the body and around the pelvic region of a male that contribute towards the reproductive process.

The organs of the male reproductive system are specialized for the following functions: *To produce, maintain, and transport sperm and protect the fluid *To discharge sperm within the female reproductive tract *To produce and secrete male hormones

External  Penis  Scrotum  Testicles  Epididymis Internal  Vas deferens  Prostate Gland

 The penis is for removing waste fluids from the male body. It is also used for sexual intercourse with the female to produce offspring, so continues the cycle of human life.

 The testicles, also referred to as male sex glands, are located behind the penis in a pouch- scrotum.  Testosterone and sperm is formed  The epididymis is where the sperm cells mature. The cells are stored here for a few weeks then moved to the vas deferens.

 The scrotum keeps the testicles at a lower temperature than body temperature-98.8 degrees fahrenheit). However, if at any case the temperature is above body temperature, sperm cells may be damaged. The temperature is controlled by the scrotum moving the testicles closer to the abdomen when the ambient temperature is cold, and further away when it is hot.

 The prostate gland is a vital part of a man’s reproductive system. The function of the this gland is to secret 25% of the seminal fluid that’s combined with sperm during ejaculation.

 Although the male reproductive system is very essential to the male anatomy, there are many diseases that can harm the male reproductive system. Surveys have shown that majority of men are unaware of the most common diseases that can effect them. Some of the most common diseases that can actually kill the male gender is prostate cancer, testicular cancer, hypospadius, and cryptorchidism.

 Affects the small walnut shaped gland in men and hinder the production of seminal fluid.  Cancer occurs when cells in prostate multiply quickly, sometimes spreading to other areas of the body.  To cure prostate cancer males take hormone therapy which can lower the levels of testosterone that may cause the tumor to grow.  Radical prostatectomy- removal of the entire prostate gland and nearby lymph nodes.

 Begins in the testes the region where sperm is produced.  Symptoms: lump or swelling in either testicle, an ache in lower part of the stomach or back, an enlarged testicle and testicular pain or heaviness.  The cure for testicular cancer is surgical treatment, which will remove the testicles.  Radiation therapy- high dose x rays used after surgery to prevent tumor from returning.

 A congenital defect of the penis in which the urinary tract opening is abnormally located away from the tip of the penis.  Surgery is the only treatment to cure hypospadias.

 A development defect in which one or both testicles fail to descend into the scrotum or inguinal canal.  The primary cure for cryptorchidism is surgery called orchiopexy.  It is usually performed in infancy

 Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that is caused by unprotected sex by someone who is effected.  Currently effecting the teen population in the community is STDs. There are several diseases that plague teens today. However, the most common STD is chlamydia. Acting as a parasite, this disease can attack the genital area of the male reproductive system. Pain and swelling can be symptoms of this disease.

 Dieting  Exercising  Sexual Protection  Check ups regularly
