3. EARLY HUMANISM IN THE RENAISSANCE  Result of new classical culture interest.  Humanists looked in Greek/Roman books, coins, and other artifacts.  One of the first humanist was Italian poet, Francesco Petrarch.

4. SCHOLARS  Traveled from all over Europe.  Studied art, architecture, government, and language.  Read classical books and poems.

5. HUMANISTS  Created philosophy; all people have the ability to control their own life and achieve greatness.  Studied humanities; a group of subjects that focus on human life and culture.

6. HUMANITIES  A group of subjects that focus on human life and culture.  Subjects include; grammar, rhetoric, history, poetry, and ethics.
