2 Goal: To further increase our understanding of allusion as necessary to the deeper meaning in a text To solidify our understanding of the family structure in the Ibo culture.

3 Religion multiple gods, ani is most important(earth god), place of worship is a temple, sacrifice goats in feast of the new yam, holidays are centered around the harvest, they have more value in god even more than men.

4 Arts & Entertainment Wresting, festival of the new yam, feast drumming, ogene, flute, story telling,

5 Gender Roles & Class men have more value, men are superior, men can beat women, multiple wives, manly jobs like growing yams, have a women goddess, women priest, cook and take care of the kids,

6 Family Relationship There's polygamy in large families, domestic abuse, separate housing for the wives and the husband, story telling from family to children, common meals and okonkwo gets three meals from each wife, okonkwo doesn’t show but loves his son,

7 Governing System They have elders and the older you are the higher you are in society, if god says so someone could be killed, priest and priestess,

12 Homework Read Chapters 8-11 and look for the folktales that Achebe embeds in his story. Think about the following questions as you read: What is the role of folktales in the Ibo culture? Why are they included in this story?
