3. Expanding Government’s role in the Economy
The New Deal expanded the role of the federal government and the president.
Infused the market with millions of dollars.
Created federal jobs.
Attempted to regulate supply and demand.
Increased participation in managing labor disputes.
Created national agencies to help combat the depression.
Provided people with hope and helped them regain a sense of dignity.

4. The New Deal’s lasting Impact
Agencies, policies, and reforms that still affect America today.

5. Protecting Worker’s rights
This area in particular the New Deal had lasting effects.
The Wagner Act and others did a variety of things like:
set standards for wages and hours.
banned child labor.
ensured workers rights to organize and collectively.
Today, the National Labor Relations Board, created under the Wagner Act, still protects laborers today.

6. Banking and Finance
Two major lasting impacts of the New Deal that stabilized finances and the economy in the 1930s and now.
#1: The Securities and Exchange Commission continues to monitor the stock market and enforce laws regarding the sale of stocks and bonds.
#2: The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation continues to protect Americans bank accounts.

7. Social Security Helps provide for the social welfare of Americans.
Provides:
Old-age insurance.
Unemployment insurance.
Disability insurance.
Takes money out of your paycheck that you can use when/if you need it.

8. Farms
Legislation made during the New Deal continues to impact farmers.
Set quotas on crop production to help control surpluses.
Set up price supports to keep farmer’s incomes steady.

9. The Environment
The Soil Conservation Service taught farmers how to conserve the soil through crop rotation and contour plowing among other things.
The Tennessee Valley Authority harnessed hydro-electric power.
Added to the national park system and set aside additional wildlife refuges.

10. But was it enough to end the depression?
Eh, not really.
It helped, but didn’t solve all the problems.
Another problem, however, was brewing in Europe.
World War II was just beginning, and while it would be the most devastating war in terms of loss of life, it would provide jobs and economic stability to bring the U.S. out of the depression.
