Solitary Confinement Williams says in his introduction to the play that “We're all of us sentenced to solitary confinement inside our own skins.”

He also speaks of “the outcry of prisoner to prisoner from the cell in solitary where each is confined for the duration of his life.”

Consider... 1. In your own words, explain what you think Tennessee Williams is saying about the human condition. 2. Do you agree with his assessment? Explain your response.

Caught in Cat 3. Which characters in Act I of the play could be considered prisoners? In what way are they prisoners? What and/or who traps them? 4. If you were a set designer and you wished to symbolize this perspective, what instructions would you give for the set? Consider: lighting, props, furniture, windows, colours.
