PUN: play on words: a humorous use of words that involves a word or phrase that has more than one possible meaning William Shakespeare is estimated to have used over 3,000 puns in his plays.

Simile and Metaphor A simile makes a comparison between two unlike items using like or as Example: It seems she hangs upon the check of night/ like a rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear (Act II Scene ii) A metaphor makes a comparison between two unlike items without using like or as Example: "But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the Sun." (Act II Scene II)
