5 1980 – 1999. Civil Service Computerisation Programme laid the Foundation for Digitization & Connectivity

6 ICT Manpower is essential. 1980, we had 850 IT professionals. By 1985, we need 5000. What did we do? Scholarships were introduced to attract the talented youngsters.

7 1982-1983, Tertiary Schools started IT Departments Tertiary schools introduced new IT diploma & degree courses.

8 And not forgetting the working professionals Continual IT education for working adults & course for mid- career switch.

9 1998, Singapore ONE, the National Broadband programme was launched Government gave S$200M. Not for building a network, but to subsidise broadband subscription.

11 2000 – 2010. The eGovernment era.

12 Earlier part of this era was about delivering as many feasible citizen-centric eServices. 24 Call For Collaboration, allows Government and Industry to co-create and co-conduct pilots and trials in Jurong Provides the industry with a platform to demonstrate their solutions in addressing urban challenges, especially those of cross- domain nature; and Offers Government agencies an opportunity to test out innovative ideas before deploying them nation-wide.

25 Take Away Is there a secret to success? Maybe…but there is a order to success. Having the right order is akin to prioritizing what needs to be done first.
