Don’t Be Another Statistic 60% OF ALL TEEN DEATHS IN CAR ACCIDENTS ARE ALCOHOL RELATED Everyday 11,318 teens try alcohol for the first time At least 3,000,000 teens are alcoholics 31% of teen drivers that die in car accidents have been under the influence

Welcome to Case 1 Teenage Drunk Driving

The Webly Family Danny Foely

The Background Story Ed Webly got a promotion and decided to bring home four bottles of Champaign for his family that night. He let his 16 year old son, Paul Webly, and Paul’s 17 year old friend, Danny Foely, open two of the bottles. The parents decided to let the boys have some wine to celebrate. After many glasses of wine the parents walked down the street to a pub while the boys took the car to party. While on the way to the party Paul, driving under the influence, was going 78 miles an hour and a cop tries to pull him over. Paul loses control of the car and crashes into a telephone pole.

The Aftermath Paul walks away with a concussion and some bruises while his best friend Danny is left in a coma. Should the Webly parents be charged with negligence?

What Are The Laws? 1) The legal drinking age is 21 in the United States 2) It is illegal for minors to obtain alcohol unless his/her parents are with them in their home ILLEGAL 3) It is ILLEGAL for the parents to provide alcohol to any of the child’s friends or guests IS 4) If a person over the age of 21 gives alcohol to a minor and that minor causes injury or damage the legal person IS held responsible

The Final Outcome We believe that Danny's parents should get everything that they ask as far as the suit goes because the Webly parents violated laws. They gave alcohol to someone who wasn't their child. They also let their child drive another person while under the influence, putting both the teens in danger. Ed and Jean Webly had a responsibility to the Foley family to keep Danny safe and they breeched that responsibly which proves them to be negligent.
