All of what we remember and learn is in our brain. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Have you ever noticed why people draw beautifully and then have a hard time adding easy numbers? Or why some people understand things right away the first time and then have a hard time writing a one page paper? llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

It’s all about the left and right brain.

Both sides of the brain are very different from each other but that doesn’t mean people use just one side of their brain. People who rely on their left brain more find their thoughts more difficult to follow. They also tend to think faster and usually excel in math and speech. People who rely more on their right side of their brain tend to be more creative. They see lots of patterns, shapes and sizes that are interesting and in one piece.

My experience as a left- handed person has been that I am more creative. I would much rather draw pictures than read a Social Studies book. When I was little, it was much harder for me to learn to read. Everybody else in my family is right handed and they think differently than I do. I can see the difference between all the right-handed people in my family and me. I am the best artist in my family and I think it is because I use the right side of my brain a lot. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

There are many famous artists and musicians that are left handed. One of the most famous artists is Michelangelo, who painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa and is left-handed. Two of the 4 Beatles are left-handed. Ludwig Van Beethoven a famous composer was also left-handed. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a famous composer who was a left handed.

The left side of the brain controls the right hand and vice versa. Researchers who study hand preferences agree that the side of the preferred hand (right vs. left) is mostly biological and, most likely, a genetic cause. Many individuals with speech and language control it in the left hemisphere of the brain. Because the left hemisphere also controls the movements of the right hand and notably the movements needed to produce written language. In a population of humans about eighty-five percent of people are right-handed and fifteen percent are left. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Everyone is different and everyone has their own unique way of learning. Whether you are creative or not creative, whether you are organized with your thoughts or not it does not matter because all of what we remember and learn is in our brain. While my experience as a left- handed person has been a challenge, I would not change it because I like being creative. I like being left-handed like so many famous artists and musicians. So, whether you are using your left hand or your left brain, it should not matter because no one learns the same. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
