WOOLLEY WOODS Miss Webb

Expectations Children come to school every day. Exceptional behaviour and manners. All children try their best whatever the task. Children attend voluntary workshops at lunchtime if invited. Children take charge of their learning and seek support if needed. Homework completed on time and to a high standard. Children are prepared and ready to learn.

Curriculum English – range of writing genres. This term we are particularly focussing on improving vocabulary and starting sentences in different ways. Maths – we will be covering all strands in the National Curriculum including number, shape, measure. Regular tasks will be set on mymaths.com to support learning at home. Science – this term we are learning about electricity. The following term will be light. Topic – our topic this term is Prehistoric Britain. We will continue to develop English skills through our topic.

RE – this term we are focussing on Love. We are identifying the different ways in which God shows unconditional love. Your child will be given a topic to research in which they will have to do a presentation to the class. This will develop their speaking and listening skills alongside developing self- esteem and confidence.

Key Stage 2 Assessments. SATs for Maths, SPAG (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Reading will be in May. The provisional date is the week beginning Monday 11 th May. Holidays taken throughout the school year will hinder progress. National Average is a Level 4 at the end of Year 6. Writing is teacher assessed throughout the year so 100% effort is paramount. During this week it is important that children have a good night’s sleep and have a good breakfast.

What can you do to help? Listen to your child read daily and ask them questions about characters/settings/what they think will happen next etc. Count in different numbers, times table games, money problems when shopping, telling the time, how long until dinner time? Encourage your child to write a diary, write about an activity they have done over the weekend. Have a word of the week to develop vocabulary. Encourage children to take time with their homework and present it neatly. Homework will be set on a Friday and must be returned by Wednesday.

I have an open door policy, I encourage parents to come and see me if they have any problems or concerns. This year is important for the children both academically and emotionally. We are preparing them for secondary school and want them to achieve their full potential ready for the transition. Children learn best when home and school work together so please come and see me if you need to.
