2 When ? The tests take place during May with a nationally set timetable Teacher assessments are continuous throughout the year

3 Why? These tests are to show us how much progress your child has made during KS2 To inform future school Take into account strengths and weaknesses of the child’s performance To inform OfSTED and LA about how well children perform

4 What are they? Tests which include Reading comprehension test Two writing tasks including assessment of handwriting Spelling, grammar and punctuation test Two maths tests, one with and one without a calculator A mental maths test Teacher assessments for all of the above and also for speaking and listening

5 How? In a familiar working environment, but with exam conditions We try to ensure they are as stress free as possible Approved additional support given as individually required With at least two school staff present All test materials are the same nationally and are marked externally to a common criteria Adequate breaks and drinks and snacks to keep them going

6 How can you help? Continue to support your child with their homework Regular reading with your child, particularly to discuss the text, such as plot, characters, making guesses about what might happen Support with learning weekly spelling Encouraging early nights Making sure they attend regularly and on time Practise mental calculations Discussing real life science and supporting with revision books for science

7 What do they mean? We will include the results of their tests in the report at the end of the year Children will be given a level from N(no result),2,3,4,5(5 being the highest) Children will also be given a teacher assessment score from W to 5 The majority of children are expected to achieve level 4 at the end of the KS2(this is a national guideline)
