Muon Piquet Training

Intro - Disclaimer  This presentation is not intended to be a complete description of the system but a guide, possibly simple, to the most-likely- used tools of the Muon System  Most of You were Piquet during Run I, in this case this could be a refresher course.  It’s of paramount importance that, for the first piquet shift, you foresee a week of overlapping with the previous piquet, doing things “hansd on” is much more efficient than any training  Run just started, so there is not yet a list of “typical” problems, every day is a new day...  Suggestions on how to improve the Piquet training are VERY welcome! 2

General Informations  LHCb Geography:  Point8  Underground area  Muon System:  Detector area  Barracks:  B1  D2  D3 1. Introductory infos for Muon Piquet 3  Burocracy:  Access  Computer Accounts  Phone numbers

There will be a CERN car Available 1. Introductory infos for Muon Piquet 4

Shuttle between CERN Meyrin and Pit 8 1. Introductory infos for Muon Piquet 5

LHCb Geography: Point 8 3894 Control room Conference room (daily run meeting) 1. Introductory infos for Muon Piquet 6 3894 Main Entrance Internal Parking lot External Parking lot

Pit Area 8  The meeting point in case of emergencies (fire,...) is the building 2890 at the site’s entrance.  By night and week-ends, the main gate is closed.  You need to sweep your card twice if you enter by car, first at the main gate, then at the normal barrier.  Make sure you always bring and carry your CERN Access Card !  There is a coffee, drink and food area inside building 2885 with vending machines, useful during long nights... These machines accept € and CHF.  During the control room work, access to the conference room is done through the door near the dosimeter reader in building 2885. 1. 8 LHC UX-A (barracks) UX-B (cavern-detector) Underground Cavern – UX85 1. Introductory infos for Muon Piquet 8

Access to point 8  As Piquet, you MUST have the appropriate trainings and access rights:  Safety courses required: 1.CERN Safety introduction 2.Safety during LS1 3.Level 4b (LHCb) 4.Radiation protection – supervised area  1. 2. 3. can be followed online: http://sir.cern.ch  You can check your acces rights on ADaMS: https://espace.cern.ch/service-access-control/default.aspx  request "UX85: LHCB underground LHCB_U through EDH  Get a dosimeter (building 55), you need a valid medical certificate  This takes time... Please take care of it before the beginning of your shifts 1. Introductory infos for Muon Piquet 9

Computing Access  For a Piquet is required:  an account on the LHCb ONLINE cluster, to get it send an e- mail to lbonsupp@cern.ch  access to the e-logbook: http://lblogbook.cern.ch, credentials are the  Online network is an isolated domain (LBDAQ.CERN.CH)  Linux (lbgw) and Windows (lbts) gateways  In the Control Room You can use the CERN general wifi network 1.
