EU-Project AIDA - TopTours Development of a Multimedia Alpine Guide (Alpine Guide Italia Deutschland Austria) Dipl.-Geographin Monika Mösbauer Arbeitsgemeinschaft GIS Institut für Geodäsie Institut für Geoinformation und Landentwicklung Universität der Bundeswehr email: monika.moesbauer@unibw-muenchen.de http://agis.bauv.unibw-muenchen.de/projekte/aida/index.htm

EU-Project AIDA - TopTours n n Consortium partners u Huber Kartographie, Munich (D) - Coordinator u AGIS - Working-Group GIS University of the Federal Armed Forces, Munich (D) u Sparrer Kartographie, Munich (D) u mapgraphic edition, St. Paul (I)

EU-Project AIDA - TopTours functions: n n retrieving fixed tours n n designing individual tours within the designated areas n n querying tourist information as texts, pictures, video-clips (e.g. route profile and description, culture, sight-seeing spots, practical hints) n n input of individual tour information (required time, prices, comfort etc.) n n display of calculated elevation profiles n n compiling a list of mountain huts and stopovers n n storing the selected information (compiling tour-books) n n searching for latest information via hyperlinks from the internet n n printing user-defined selections (e.g. maps, elevation profiles, station- lists) n n down-loading a station list to hand-held GPS-receivers

EU-Project AIDA - TopTours n n Selected regions: ê CD 1 Wetterstein ê CD 2 Karwendel ê CD 3 Zillertal ê CD 4 Dolomiten ê CD 5 Allgäu ê CD 6 Chiemgau

EU-Project AIDA - TopTours n n Technical concept: u u CD-ROM-version u u modular architecture (Visual C ++ ) u u moduls: map-viewer, routing-algorithm, administration of tours, queries, GPS-interface, printing u u data base compatible (ODBC), e.g. Oracle, FoxPro, Access.. u u special hyperlinks integrated (supplementary information by internet)

EU-Project AIDA - TopTours n n Definition phase - Graphical User Interface

EU-Project AIDA - TopTours n n Implementation phase - Graphical User Interface

Data basis EU-Project AIDA - Data

n Official data EU-Project AIDA - Data

n n Processing the raster data u u Merging different layers  Generating one picture u u geo-referencing into one uniform reference system: (UTM, WGS84) EU-Project AIDA - Data u matching to one uniform colour-table u creating one coherent seamless area u generating tiles (performance) u Exchange Format: *.gif

n n Problems in processing the raster data - Topographic map 1:50.000 9 9 convinient scale for the visualization of e.g. hiking-paths   high information density  originally not produced for a computer visualization   ordering separate layers of raster data  leaving out the dispensible symbology for vegetation   supplementary time-intensive workflow (merging layers)   huge file-size EU-Project AIDA - Data

n Processing the official Bavarian vector data - roads u different format-delivery (OS, DXF) - two different workflows u transform the official vector data into one uniform geodetic reference system (UTM, WGS84) u adapting to the AIDA-dictionary u digitizing additional objects (field paths, trails, tracks, etc.) u changing attributes (e.g. municipal road = path for hiking)  very time- consuming and error-prone  routing along this element would not be possible u deleting dispensable geometry (e.g. to much municipal roads) u DXF-files  double features, because they are delivered with an overlap to the adjacent files EU-Project AIDA - Data

n n Official vector data - roads edge X ATKIS-Objpath municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID....... path for hiking edge X ATKIS-Objpath municipal AIDA-Obj Obj-ID....... no value edge X ATKIS-Objpath municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID....... path for hiking edge X ATKIS-Objpath municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID....... path for hiking edge X ATKIS-Objpath municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID....... path for hiking edge X ATKIS-Objpath municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID....... path for hiking EU-Project AIDA - Data

n n Different workflow EU-Project AIDA - Data 1) with ATKIS u DXF (18 files) - assignment of the objects in different layers to feature- classes u DXF to OS u OS (19) and DXF-files - adapting to the AIDA-Datamodel u Georeferencing all files u transport from MGDynamo to MGE and Oracle (OX) u Digitizing the additional geometry and special data u time-consuming reassignment of the features from ATKIS to AIDA 2) without ATKIS u Digitizing the geometry and special data u Attribution

n n Common workflow after digitizing EU-Project AIDA - Data u transport back to MGDynamo (XO) u digitizing of tours only in MGDynamo possible (splitting geometry) u interactive verification: border-matching, geometric-anomalies (over- /undershoot), lost attributes, no attributes, bridges, node-connection u automatic routine: merging of uniform objects, splitting at cross-points, assigning system-ID‘s to nodes and edges, ASCII (*.asc) u projection the elevation model to geometry - ASCII (*.xyz) u Deleting of double-features u ASCII-Output for database (*.ln1, *.ln2, *pnt, *xyz)

n n Official vector data - village boundaries   name of the cell not an attribute  stand-alone text- object   development of an interactive programme to place and correct the name (e.g. deleting dashes)   verifiying the objects with the analogue map   geometry of village boundaries in DXF-format = line feature  OS-format = Polygon  problems with the AIDA-dictionary  effort > benefit  digitizing the necessary village boundaries by AGIS EU-Project AIDA - Data

n n Processing the elevation data u u projection of the vector data onto the terrain surface to get 3D-coordinates of all nodes and vertices of the routing network  development of a programme n n Processing the semantic and multimedia data u u geo-referencing the description of tours, addresses of leisure facilities and services, culture, sight-seeing spots, practical hints as texts, pictures, video-clips EU-Project AIDA - Data

n Special data from maps EU-Project AIDA - Data n more special data (Huber)  Problem: time-consuming acquisition

n n Applied Software EU-Project AIDA - Software

n n GPS-interface u u protocol in ASCII-format EU-Project AIDA - GPS u Legende: u R Route u 01 Nr. of the route u Aida-Current name of the route u W waypoint u P001 current number of a waypoint u N3519.3776 latitude of a waypoint u W08540.4503 longitude of a waypoint

n n GPS-interface u u menu for selecting the private GPS- receiver EU-Project AIDA - GPS
