2 WHO WE ARE

3 3 PHI THETA KAPPA Phi Theta Kappa is the official International Honor Society for two-year colleges. Incorporated in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is now the largest honor society in American higher education. –It has more than 2 million members 1,200 chapters NOT a fraternity/sorority

4 4 BETA IOTA RHO BETA IOTA RHO is the local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Luzerne County Community College, chartered on December 12, 2000. –We have earned a 5-STAR chapter rating –We have been a TOP 100 chapter –We earned a HALLMARK AWARD for our HIAP –President Leary: SHIRLEY GORDON award –Dr. Housenick: PARAGON ADVISOR award

5 MEMBERSHIP

6 6 REQUIREMENTS A student must: –have a GPA of 3.5 or better + –be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours at LCCC during Fall or Spring Semesters + –have completed 12 hours or more of transfer-level courses Membership is Invitation Only

7 7 BENEFITS As members of Phi Theta Kappa, students receive: –Eligibility for scholarships including completion scholarships to assist finishing associate’s degree & many excellent transfer scholarships to four- year universities over $37 million each year

8 8 BENEFITS As members of Phi Theta Kappa, students receive: –Soft skills development: opportunities for leadership, organization, scholarship, fellowship, community service –The right to wear honor regalia at graduation: the gold and blue cords the Golden Stole and tassel

9 9 BENEFITS As members of Phi Theta Kappa, students receive: –Letters of Recommendation –Phi Theta Kappa certificate, transcript notation –Phi Theta Kappa diploma seal –A Golden Key pin –Subscription to Society publications –Press releases

10 10 FEES $70 –1-time only fee no further monetary obligations –$60 to PTK –$5 to region –$5 to chapter

26 26 LEVEL of INVOLVEMENT Still, Service & Fellowship are 2 of our 4 Hallmarks, so we welcome your contributions. –Bake something for a bake sale. –Sell wrist bands for our Relay for Life team. –Donate books or clothes to one of our drives. –Share great ideas for great club activities. –Communicate with members electronically.
