Movie reviews A review – an article that tells you if something is good or bad. Consider… Why did you choose to watch it? What is it about? Why did you like it? How would you rate it? (stars)

Why did you choose to watch it? A friend recommended it to me. I like the actor/the director/the book. I read a good review. I was bored and wanted to go to the cinema.

What is it about? The plot… The characters… The setting…(It is set in England/China/a fictional place/a fictional version of England/China)

Why did(n’t) you like it? It had a clear message. It made me think (about?)/laugh/cry. It was moving/inspiring/gripping/emotional. OR I fell asleep. It was boring/unoriginal/not as good as the book.

How would you rate it? I would give it X stars. (5=very good/1=very bad) I would recommend it to everyone. I would recommend it to someone I hate.

Tasks. Use this information to prepare a movie review of your own. Do not write it, just think about it and be ready to speak.

Discussion Questions 1.What is the most important factor in making a good movie? 2.Do you think pirate DVDs are killing the movie industry? 3.Are movies becoming less original? 4.Is the movie industry more about money than art? 5.What films did you like as a child and do you still like them now? Why/Why not? 6.What do you see as the future of movies? 7.Should you read the book or watch the movie first?
