5 Wwwpd It was United States President John F. Kennedy who once said, If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him. Trinidad and Tobagos vision for embracing the Arts is founded on the belief that – it is in the arts that the spirit of our people emerges and that the possibilities inherent in artistic endeavour need to be nurtured. 6 Wwwpd In July 2010, The Government ratified the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005) and the Convention for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. This landmark achievement places Trinidad and Tobago as a global partner in the development of the cultural industries. Ministry of the Arts and Multiculturalism

These companies provide the performing, literary, video, animation, and other artists in the entertainment and film sectors with opportunities for the creation and dissemination of their works both locally and abroad. Ministry of the Arts and Multiculturalism

10 Wwwpd These combined strategies provides the artist with the enabling environment for his recognition and insertion in the marketplace. The plethora of local festivals, including the Greatest Show on Earth, Trinidad and Tobagos Carnival which is at the beginning of our Calendar year, also provide a space for the artist in the marketplace. It is in the local space that the artist gets his opportunity to show his talent and get it reviewed. Ministry of the Arts and Multiculturalism Trinidad and Tobago10
