5 S3/5 Physics – The Electromagnetic Spectrum Experiences & Outcomes By carrying out a comparison of the properties of parts of the electromagnetic spectrum beyond the visible, I can explain the use of radiation and discuss how this has impacted upon society and our quality of life. SCN 4-11b

6 Research Task 1.Consider the electromagnetic spectrum: Radio & TV Micro waves Infra red Visible light Ultra violet X-Rays Gamma radiation Increasing frequency, increasing energy, decreasing wavelength. All waves in the em spectrum travel at the speed of light!

7 Radio & TV Micro waves Infra red Visible light Ultra violet X-Rays Gamma radiation Increasing frequency, increasing energy, decreasing wavelength. 3.Find out: How is your chosen part of the em spectrum used in industry, medicine and /or communication? What are the disadvantages or dangers of using this part of the em spectrum? How has it benefited society?

8 Radio & TV: Microwaves: Infra Red: Visible Light: Ultra Violet: X-Rays: Gamma: IN YOUR GROUP Prepare a short presentation (with poster) to let the rest of the class know about your chosen part of the em spectrum. You will be presenting on Friday. Get into 7 groups – Each group chooses One of the topics from the left. First group to write their name beside the topic gets to research and present that one.
