[Pocket certificates ] Start at 2:00, time is 60 minutes The purpose of this session is to describe the Venturing awards and recognitions and emphasize their unique features. In the first three sessions of this training, we talked about the aims and purposes of Venturing, the challenges facing Venturing-age youth, and the need to train our Venturers. Now we will discuss the need to recognize our young people for their achievements.

Bronze Gold Silver Ranger Point out the pictures of the Bronze, Gold, Silver, Ranger, and Quartermaster Awards The basic awards are the Venturing Bronze, Gold, and Silver Awards, with the Silver being the highest. The requirements can be found in the Venturer Handbook and the Venturing Leader Manual. Show the Venturer Handbook, #33493 [Badges are based on historic badges First is the Bronze Award Bronze is not actually a requirement for Gold. While p. 254, #1 of the 1999 VLM says so, the requirements in VLM and VH do not say so. After completing Bronze, the others are parallel tracks Youth may earn one or all] Quartermaster

Outdoor (half of Ranger Award) Sea Scouting (Ordinary rank) Show the Bronze Award Certificate, # [Pocket certificate #33649] [Requirements: Venturing Leader Manual, pp Venturer Handbook, pp Youth need to earn any one Bronze Award to proceed to the Silver Award Outdoor Bronze is required for Ranger Sea Scout Bronze is required for Quartermaster

Leave No Trace Navigation Wilderness Survival Communications Cooking Conservation The Ranger Award is a stand-alone program for Venturers interested in pursuing challenging outdoor activities. The requirements can be found in the Ranger Guidebook. Show the Ranger Guidebook, #3128. Show the Ranger Award Certificate, # [Pocket certificate #33646] Separate 84 pp. Ranger Guidebook, $5.95 (SHOW IT) Will need Fieldbook and other references also Completing 4 core and 2 electives earns Outdoor Bronze Requirements allow an inexperienced outdoorsperson to learn and grow to meet the challenge Rangers are the outdoors elite

10 Consultants Key role in the success of a Venturing Crew
Special skills, equipment, facilities, contacts Similar role to the merit badge counselor Registered as adult volunteers or merit badge counselor in council/district Remember: one on one involvement between adults and youth prohibited

11 Conducting Boards of Review
Male Venturers - Star, Life, Eagle Palm Troop or crew, if dual registered 3 to 6 member of troop or crew committee 1 member serves as chairman Crew Advisor, associate advisor, relatives, or guardians - may not serve on the board

12 Purpose of the Review To make sure the work has been learned and completed To check to see what kind of experience the young man is having in the crew To encourage the Venturer to advance to the next rank Review is not an examination - 15 minutes Eagle board follows the procedures of the local council

13 Conducting Crew Reviews
Required for Gold and Silver awards Candidate prepares evidence of work completed and submit to crew Advisor Crew president with crew Advisor - appoint review committee of Venturers and adults Did the candidate grow? Standard advancement report completed for council office
