The design is so unique, our competitors are misrepresenting it for one or both reasons: They don’t understand it or They can’t compete with it Either way we would like to answer the tough questions brought to our attention by local competitors.

4 Q: “It’s not a true condensing boiler”
A: Oh yes it is! The KN boiler condenses with the best of the condensing boilers. It is fully condensing, fully modulating, and produces efficiencies up to 98% JUST like it’s competitors. EX: With more durability To the right is a standard condensing design known in the industry. It fires upward and condenses downward. The re-evaporation alone attacks the longevity of the boiler.

5 Q: “It’s not a true condensing boiler”
How does Hydrotherm do it? Down-fired, balanced flow This controls the O2 level adding to the durability of the boiler design. Wipes condensate away instead of re- evaporating it. Pushes condensate to the base while the gasses pass through a careful pin design on the fireside of each section. Water blows off pins Condensate leaves boiler instead of sitting on the sections!

6 More on the Downfired Specific Design:
Spring-mounted ceramic burner On-burner pilot Lights at low gas pressures (can fire to rate at 2” wc) Condenses away from controls & burner unlike many of today’s condensing boilers. Balanced temperature rise with counterflow operation offers optimum efficiency and accurate modulation and turn down.

7 Q: “If the boiler is cast iron it will shock”
A: Oh no it won’t! In fact, not only will it not shock, it will last considerably longer than typical steel or copper condensing boilers. Durable TRUE cast iron design is 5 times the wall thickness of copper and 3 to 4 times the heating capacity of copper. Pressure? ASME tested to 100 psi Flow requirements… The best! Ex. KN10 FLOW GPM (Cv=100) Enough to allow for good modulation Most won’t need primary secondary pumping!

Really the KN can’t shock because where everyone else stopped with the fireside design, KN engineered the waterside pathways as well! Balanced, orificed flow .70” & 1” orifices < 5° between sections < 2° between flue outlets Maximum efficiency under all operating conditions Only 14 gallon water capacity so little opportunity for stand by losses. 21 year thermal shock guarantee

9 Quick ‘Shocking’ Review on Counter Flow
Pin design ‘in’ the section, much like the exterior fireside ‘pin’ arrangement. Internally acts like a natural pump Balanced, orificed flow Only 14 gallon water capacity Low pressure drop - Cv=100 No return water temperature limit. (Please make it liquid!)

10 Speaking of the: CAST IRON SECTION
American made in the Boyertown Foundry (HB Smith) 1/4” wall thickness for unmatched durability. Deep-pin design is specifically engineered for proper fireside gas flow. Fully machined fit with no push nipples. Independent studies show the cast iron can hold up to 60 plus years of condensing.

11 Q: “Call customer X…he doesn’t like the Hydro……”
A: Give us a break! Not a very professional play on words at all…. The KN boiler is a Mestek venture. Mestek is a 500 million dollar corporation owning and operating near 40 HVAC related companies. Mestek PURCHASED Hydrotherm and Hydropulse. After years of trying to fix the Hydropulse design, they stopped the production of this violent combustion process. EX: Not a Hydropulse Boiler. Mestek began as the HB Smith Company who has been manufacturing quality cast iron boilers since the late 1800’s. Smith is the cooperative in the KN venture. The production of HydroPULSE boilers halted late in Mestek invested millions of dollars supporting this line of boilers while carefully developing the KN with Ken Coehn (Designer of the Aerco KC model boiler). Still they support the PULSE and continue to honor every warranty claim as the stand up 500 million dollar corporation they are!

12 Q: “So and so doesn’t like the Hydro……”
A: History of the KN design: Mestek employed a brilliant boiler designer in Ken Coehn. Ken Coehn developed the Aerco KC boiler but claims his lifetime goal was to develop a true condensing cast iron sectional boiler. The KN passes all the intense testing and development and Mestek determines the boiler should bare the Hydrotherm logo (Instead of the Smith Name). The boiler fires 2000 mbh in near silence, modulates effectively, and shares the same performance curves of it’s competitors without the use of external heat exchangers (such as Camus) which truly are simple stack economizers on a copper boiler. Could of easily been named with the Smith logo!

17 What our competitors won’t tell you…
Boiler is nearly silent all the way up to 2000 mbh Accepts 4-20ma signals and gives you TT enable and disable points. Available with HeatNet control system which is Bacnet compatible and independently does outdoor reset and modulation on multiple boilers. Fires TO RATE with incoming gas pressures as low as 2” w.c. (still fires at 1.5” w.c.) Power consumption under 2 amps in low fire.

18 Over the counter parts! Text display Nearly completely non proprietary (standard ‘over the counter’ controls and trim). Heavy duty commercial/industrial RM7800 series flame safeguard with screen on every boiler. Standard Honeywell UV scanner (C7027A) so you have no rectification rods to adjust or replace. Primary/Secondary pumping most likely not needed! Easy to service and adjust all components (not cased up). Low profile for easy service and fits through a standard door. Oh, don’t forget the KN can take ANY return temperature!
