1. What is Title 1? It is a federal formula grant. It is the largest federal grant the Fayette County Public Schools receives.

2. How Title 1 works The federal government provides funding to school districts each year. School districts identify schools that are eligible to receive funds.

3. The Title 1 school works to: identify students most in need of educational help set goals for improvement measure student progress, according to KCCT develop programs that add to regular classroom instruction involve parents in all aspects of the program

4. Two types of Title 1 programs Schoolwide programs Schools with 40% or more of its children from low-income families can develop schoolwide Title 1 programs to serve all students. Schoolwide programs can combine Title 1 funds with federal, state, and local funds to improve school programs. Targeted assistance programs Other schools will work out a plan to make sure that children served by Title 1 meet the KY’s achievement standards. Targeted assistance programs cannot combine federal, state, and local funds.

5. As a parent, you’re part of the Title 1 team! The parent-school compact states the goals and responsibilities of both parents and schools. The parent involvement policy helps parents understand and take part in the school’s efforts.

6. Our School’s Title 1 Sub-grant Our Title 1 sub-grant for 2011-2012 is $274,500.00 which pays for 1 Primary Class Size Reduction teacher, 1 Reading Recovery/Intervention teacher and when combined with other funds, pays for a Social Worker, and a Reading Intervention teacher. It also pays for professional development, translations, instructional supplies, supplemental instructional material and extended day for all teachers. Our school has a Title 1 Schoolwide program that focuses on improving academic success for all.

7. Extended Day Adds an additional 40 minutes to the instructional day, allowing for more intense focus in all academic areas.

8. Classroom Size Reduction Reduce the student/teacher ratio across the Primary Program to meet student’s individual needs.

9. Social Worker Delivers extensive classroom guidance teaching pro-social skills (ex. Self- awareness, getting along with others, listening skills) Assisting families and children with a variety of issues.

10. Reading Recovery Individual first grade students receive a half hour lesson each day for twelve to twenty weeks with a trained teacher

11. Reading Intervention Provides supplementary reading and writing instruction in small groups, Kindergarten - 3 rd Grade, for the purpose of closing the gap between struggling readers and their peers.
