2 Georgia Performance Standards Students will further develop their understanding of how whole numbers are represented in the base-ten numeration system. a. Identify place value names and places from hundredths through one million.

3 What you need to know about the 4 th Grade curriculum! Essential Questions and Graphic Organizers Textbooks are great resources Study Guides Pretests and Posttests Reading Logs/ AR books (including Book- It) Study habits / Test taking strategies Student Management Plan

4 How can you help your child improve their reading skills? Have a regular reading time daily Provide reading material Read as a family Go to the library Know what your child is reading Look for reading weaknesses so you can support your child’s growth Use a variety of materials to help your child read (books-on-tape, computer programs, games, etc.) Be excited about reading / be a role model

5 How does the CRCT tie into what we are doing in the 4 th Grade? April 22 – 23, 27-29 Students are tested on GPS Test taking skills and strategies CRCT on-line (March) Good night’s rest and a nutritious breakfast Donation of snacks to provide an energy boost

6 What are Barrow’s Basics? System wide 3 minute timed-tests 50 mixed basic facts Once a week (Thursdays) Data is displayed in the hallways, at the District Office, and on Behavior Reports.

7 Why do we do Barrow’s Basics? To increase fluency in math facts To develop proficiency in math problem solving skills

8 How do the students prepare for Barrow’s Basics? Math drills daily Write facts Do weekly exercises that involve all mathematical operations (+, -, X, / ) Have students study all math facts daily at home for fluency and comprehension of number sense

9 Why do we have homework? To enhance the current skill taught in class Students should be able to complete independently or with minimal assistance Parents should monitor and check homework daily To inform parents of what is being taught in the classroom Create a time and a place for homework to encourage learning and instill responsibility

10 How and why is the agenda used? It is a parent, student, and teacher communication tool Student organizational tool Responsibility of the student to complete neatly and accurately daily Parents should check and initial daily Great place to leave comments and concerns
