2 Location England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west; the Irish Sea is to the north west, the Celtic Sea to the south west and the North Sea to the east, with the English Channel to the south separating it from continental Europe. Most of England comprises the central and southern part of the island of Great Britain in the North Atlantic. The country also includes over 100 smaller islands such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.

5 The flag The Flag of England is the St George's (Saint George became the patron saint of England in the thirteenth century, and the legend of Saint George slaying a dragon dates from the twelfth century) Cross. The red cross appeared as an emblem of England during the Middle Ages and the Crusades and is one of the earliest known emblems representing England. It also represents the official arms of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and it achieved status as the national flag of England during the sixteenth century.

9 Climate, geography and population England has a temperate maritime climate meaning that it is mild with temperatures not much lower than 0 °C in winter and not much higher than 32 °C in summer. The weather is subject to change. We can understand everything that the geography is dominated by rugged hills and low mountains. With over 51 million inhabitants, England is by far the most populous country of the United Kingdom, accounting for 84% of the combined total.
